On the way to dried flowers

March 1, 2008 |

Let’s start this article with an example. Last September I pruned our pineapple guava. The result was the accumulation of a heap of twigs and brushwood with silvery leaves, buds and newly blooming fruits. The very look was beautiful and it thought of preserving it through drying. You won’t believe the entire foliage along with all the branches and twigs and fruits actually dried and that too in full shape. During the Christmas they served a grand decorative accessory with golden spray. The entire ambience of the foliage looked great on the mantel. What added further to the beauty was a few dried burgundy roses placed here and there along and dried hydrangeas as well. The entire embellishment was meticulous and looked really good.
The drying thing is good and the result will surely give you a drive. But to be a bit more specific you will need an exclusive drying rack for the purpose. You can hang the blossom groupings anywhere in the house but the best is to build your self a wonderful, handy and inexpensive drying rack. Extra trash wood planks stores away in the house can perfectly help the situation. Just cut, shape and nail those wood pieces into two-by-fours to the ceiling in the storage or the nursery or the greenhouse. After that staple the wire mesh you may use for stucco to the planks. A roll of electrical wires and a pair of wire cutters can perfectly serve as hooks for you. And soon you will find that the garage too looks like a beautiful little garden.
It is better to avoid planting during the summers but it is the apt time for drying purposes. So start picking on the flowers that you would love to see and cherish all through out the year and dry and store them to adorn your house all through the year.
