Making dried flower candles
March 3, 2008 |
Dried flower arrangements by Martha Stewart like bouquets, wreaths and gift wrappings are quite common among the dried flowers arrangements. But did you know that you can also make dried flower candles. They are very easy to make once you have your choice of dried flowers with you. Like the other dried flower artifacts you can use these to decorate your home or even gift them to your loved ones.
Make a note of the material you’ll require for making dried flower candles. You’ll require quite some dried flower heads of different sizes. You’ll need white paper and ½ inches of foam. Other things will include two heavy boards and thick strap and waxed candle of your choice. Also keep a glass jar which is larger than the candle and hot water too.
There is a particular technique in which you’ve to dry the flowers for making candles. Choose flowers of different head sizes and cut the stems as near to the flower heads as possible. You can even take some leaves and dry them as well. On one of the boards place a sheet of foam. Lay all the flower heads with their faces down and keep in mind that the petals are flat and sticking to the paper. Now place another sheet of paper on top of the flower heads followed by another piece of foam and a second board. Tie the entire arrangement with a thick strap and keep it at a dry place. Keep it near a window where it can get lot of light and warm dryness. Do not disturb the setup for nearly five days to get perfect dried flower heads. But do keep in mind the flowers should always be flush.
Usually dried flowers take more time to dry but here you do not have to dry the heads so much that you cannot even move them. After five days open the flower press and leaves and dab the dried flower heads with a bit of moisture. Fill the glass jar 2/3 full with water which you have to boil and cool before pouring. Although, the water in the glass jar should be warm. Then lower into it the candle holding it by the wick for about five second. The moment you remove the candle from the water start pressing the dried flower heads to the sides of the candle. Push the back of the heads into the candle. Use the stem as a pin. After you have filled the candle with dried flowers and leaves dip it again into the warm water. Keep holding it for sometime and then leave the candle to dry.
Your candle is ready if you want you can now adorn it with flowers, colors etc. and can give vent to your creativity.
